We conduct comprehensive exams which allow us to accurately detect eye disease or other abnormalities early, often before they present any symptoms. We carry a wide selection of designer frames and sunglasses in our optical shop in order to fulfill the individual needs of each of our patients. Dr. Jill K. Showalter is Dr. Ritchie’s eldest daughter. She and her husband William (Bill) a well-known statewide professional surveying engineer, returned to the area in order to be close to their extended families and to raise their children. Dr. Showalter and husband Bill have four children: eldest son Patrick who graduated from Ohio University in 2012 and is currently serving his Country in the National Guard and is married to Katherine Sweitzer, a 2013 graduate of Ohio University; eldest daughter Sarah Catherine who is attending Ohio University; daughter Abigail and son Joseph who respectively are a Junior and a Sophomore at Parkersburg High School. Dr. Showalter’s academic background includes attendance at Duke University, Marietta College and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, where she received both her Bachelor of Science (1993) and Doctor of Optometry degrees (1995). Dr. Showalter is a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
When not in the office, Dr. Showalter's many interests include spending time with family, running, kayaking, and supporting the arts.
Dr. Douglas Ritchie is a lifelong resident of the Marietta/Parkersburg area. Dr. Ritchie is a Vietnam War era veteran having served as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy. He completed his undergraduate education at Marietta College and obtained the Doctor of Optometry degree from Ohio State University. In 2002, he received the Doctor of Medicine degree from Marshall University. Dr. Ritchie is the only practicing optometrist in the area to have degrees in both optometry and medicine. Dr. Ritchie limits his practice solely to optometry at this location.
Dr. Ritchie and his wife, Yvonne, have three grown children. Jill Ritchie Showalter, OD and her husband William and four children; Holly Ritchie Freed, MD and her husband Adam and three children of Williamstown; and Adam Ritchie, MD and his wife Andrea and three children of Huntington.
When not in the office, two of Dr. Ritchie’s pastimes are playing golf and enjoying his grandchildren.
Carrie K. Stephens, O.D. is a 1997 graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN and lifelong West Virginian. She holds a Bachelor's degree in biology, 1993, from West Virginia University where she was a four-year-member of the Mountaineer Marching Band. Dr. Stephens resides in Parkersburg with her husband Shawn, who is also an area optometrist, and their two sons Josiah and Joel. She stays busy in the community as a Cub Scout Leader, a Bible Class teacher, and being involved with her sons' activities at Hamilton Middle and Parkersburg High School. Dr. Stephens believes that the best life is a life of service. She was inspired to become an optometrist by her grandmother, who after growing up in foster care, received her first life-changing pair of glasses at the age of 21.
Susannah Neff, O.D. is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis Tennessee. As a child she was required to wear glasses from an early age, inspiring her to pursue a field where she could help others with visual impairments. After receiving her degree in 2000, she relocated to Baltimore to practice alongside her sister, fellow SCO graduate, Leah Ostrow, O.D. Dr. Neff recently returned to West Virginia with her husband Del Turner, an optician and EyeDoctors' employee. In their free time, the pair enjoy exploring film and literature, spending time with family and settling into their new home.
